Naptime for Mommy

So I'm a little late on taking the advice, "Sleep when the baby sleeps". I never did this when Aubrey was a newborn. I was too busy and shell shocked to sleep. But now that Aubrey is almost 8 months old, I have learned that napping when she naps is a survival skill on some days.

When I was working, I could never take a nap. If I only got 5 hours of sleep one night, that's all I was going to get. However now that I'm home with Aubrey, I usually take a nap as soon as she goes down in the morning. I feel like such a wimp, but she has really been exhausting me lately with her crawling and climbing! I figure I might as well enjoy this luxury while I only have one baby. I imagine once you have more than one, it's not so convenient (or possible!) to take naps anymore.

On that note, my bed is calling.

  1. I take a nap about half the time when my daughter does as well. It makes so much difference in my demeanor and enjoyment of the day even if I only get a 15-20 minute nap.

Sometimes even this small amount is not possible as there are always things to do that are near impossible when she is awake though.

  2. Isn't it amazing how much a 15 minute nap can improve your mood?! I can go from a grouch to cheerful just from taking a quick catnap. I agree with you though; on some days it is just not possible to nap!

  3. I miss those times! I remember when I was staying home and both my boys used to take a three hour nap together every day. It was heaven, and I took it for granted!

  4. Yes take naps while you can! I have 3 now and even though one of them is 8 months, teething and keeps me at sometimes at night, I'd love to take a good nap once and a while, but my 5 year old is past naps! UGH! Cute blog. I found you on Top Mommy Blogs. Following you now!

  5. My boy is almost two and I love taking a nap when he does. I try to do it 2-3 times a week. Just one of life's indulgences :)
